With a bumper crop of Republican candidates competing to win the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, August 13, PURSE-Iowa and VOICES of Conservative Women will partner in a Presidential Kick-Off Breakfast and an hourly Corn Poll contest. Breakfast attendees will hear from the field of Presidential candidates (candidate list http://iowastrawpoll.eventbrite.com), and Straw Poll women and men attendees will visit the VOICES/PURSE tent to weigh in at the Corn Poll with a kernel or more of corn to tip the scale in support of their favorite candidate. Among the most frustrating experiences for a voter is to go into the polling place knowing nothing about candidates for ofice; what’s worse is when a voter has no power to hold elected officials accountable. Judicial elections in Minnesota suffer from both problems. Reforming judicial selection in Minnesota has drawn much discussion. But, as individuals engage on the issue, they are becoming more engaged in the larger question of how best to hold judges accountable to voters and make sure the judicial election process is understood. Previous social events were the must attend event of the summer, we know this event will be just as engaging.
