VOICESPAC Congratulates Lynn Fitch – Mississippi Treasurer
A commonsense pocketbook leader who will restore fiscal sanity to the Mississippi Budget

(Maple Grove, Minnesota – November 08, 2011) In August, VOICESPAC, a 527 political fund of VOICES, endorsed Lynn Fitch for Mississippi Treasurer. The Mississippi Treasurer serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the State. VOICESPAC congratulates Lynn Fitch who has prevailed in her race for Treasurer of Mississippi.

“The common sense, pocketbook woman is looking to our leaders to make our economy and her future strong again,” said Jennifer DeJournett, co-founder of VOICES of Conservative Women. “ Having such a strong woman leader will serve as a beacon to other women who are looking to run for office and serve their communities. Lynn Fitch is a uniquely qualified leader who is well-suited to restore fiscal sanity to the Mississippi budget.”

DeJournett concluded with the following, “Lynn’s impeccable resume and her extraordinary experience in leading a state agency along with her experience as a bond lawyer made her the most qualified individual in the race to be the next Treasurer of Mississippi. The voters of Mississippi are getting the real deal when they elected Lynn Fitch tonight. VOICESPAC congratulates Lynn Fitch on her victory and we wish her well as she serves her state.”

VOICES of Conservative Women has a strong history of electing fiscally conservative women candidates. In its first year in Minnesota, two-thirds of VOICES endorsed candidates were elected to state legislative seats and local offices. In key legislative races, 87.5% of its endorsed, key candidates prevailed on Election Day 2010. VOICES of Conservative Women was reorganized in 2011 as a 501(c)4 nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with a political action fund (VOICES of Conservative Women State PAC). VOICESPAC continues this strong track record tonight and grows stronger with each common sense, pocketbook woman that wins in her community.

Sage fundraising advice from Nancy Bocskor, Author of “Go Fish: How to Catch (and Keep) Contributors”

Sage fundraising advice from Nancy Bocskor, Author of “Go Fish: How to Catch (and Keep) Contributors”

As I teach fundraising skills to both political campaigns and non-profit organizations, I remind students of the key component for success: If you don’t believe in the candidate or cause you’re representing, no one else will. Your personal passion is critical for your fundraising efforts. And your ability to make emotional connections with potential donors can move them from concern to passion to cash.

Top fundraiser and friend, Stephen Clouse, recently shared the following story about the renowned diamond dealer, Harry Winston’s, secret to success. In the story (i), Winston teaches us that there is no substitute for passion:

The famous New York diamond dealer Harry Winston heard about a wealthy Dutch merchant who was looking for a certain kind of diamond to add to his collection. Winston called the merchant, told him that he thought he had the perfect stone, and invited the collector to come to New York and examine it.

The collector flew to New York and Winston assigned a salesman to meet him and show the diamond. When the salesman presented the diamond to the merchant he described the expensive stone by pointing out all its fine technical features. The merchant listened and praised the stone but turned away and said, “It’s a wonderful stone but not exactly what I wanted.”

Winston, who had been watching the presentation from a distance stopped the merchant and asked, “Do you mind if I show you that diamond once again?” The merchant agreed and Winston presented the same stone. But instead of talking about the technical features of the stone, Winston spoke spontaneously about his own genuine admiration of the diamond and what a rare thing of beauty it was. Abruptly, the customer changed his mind and bought the diamond.

While he was waiting for the diamond to be packaged and brought to him, the merchant turned to Winston and asked, “Why did I but it from you when I had no difficulty saying no to your salesman?”

Winston replied, “The salesman is one of the best men in the business and he knows more about diamonds than I do. I pay him a good salary for what he knows. But I would gladly pay him twice as much if I could put into him something that I have and he lacks. You see, he knows diamonds, but I love them.”

Much of successful fundraising revolves around not just knowing your candidate or cause, but loving what you’re doing. Build your case of support. Make an emotional connection – because we can all follow Harry Winston’s advice: decisions are based from the heart not the head.

VOICES of Conservative Women - September Newsletter

From the Kitchen Table of VOICES of Conservative Women

Dear Friends,

Can you believe Fall is already here?   We can’t but we are charging ahead and getting ready for a very busy 2012 season.

Like the tale of the ants and the grasshopper, getting ready early always pays off versus the grasshopper’s plan of just “hoping” or wishing for ”change”.    We are working hard every day, rain or shine, to make a difference in the little ways that we can towards the path of victory.

Yes, there will be a test (on Election Day)

Yes, there will be a test (on Election Day) ~ Jennifer DeJournett

When our children went back to school each year, parents often reflect on the summer and the previous school year. It’s hard to believe that a year has flown by and a new year is just about to begin.

What struck me this year was that our country’s economic environment really hasn’t improved. Being in my late 30s, my generation really hasn’t seen a prolonged state of economic stagnation before. Bubbles burst only to re-inflate and overall our lives improved.

However, this economic downturn has struck us all in a way that hasn’t happened before. Our basic understandings of how one moves up the economic ladder no longer seem to apply. For example, one mom was recently speaking to her friend about her desire for a higher degree. However, she was lamenting the fact that the risk of being unable to find a job upon completion of the degree would no longer justify the time or expense.

The generation of latchkey kids has learned a tough lesson. If you spend more than you have and you might not be able to dig yourself out of the economic pit. The implications for political figures are catastrophic.

Fancy speeches and big promises will no longer work. Standing at a podium and telling us lofty visions will always be seen with a skeptical eye. What the new America is longing for is that leader who will walk in the trenches with us, who has seen tough times but yet has prevailed. Vague concepts of “hope” and “change” must be replaced with specific tasks that have measures of progress and effectiveness. The mantra “it was like that when I got here” needs to be replaced by “everything that happens from this point forward, good or bad, is my responsibility”.

As one looks out into the political field of 2012 and one carefully considers the strengths and weakness of each candidate, it quickly becomes apparent which leaders understand that America is changing and some would-be leaders are still struggling with that concept.

The same can be true for the national media. Lately, it appears that they too are starting to see that this “spend less” and “real leaders” isn’t some cute “Cabbage Patch Doll Lunch Box” phase that America is going through but is something lasting.

America wants to take her time understanding who a candidate is, who they will be in office and most importantly if they can really make a difference if elected. If that candidate cannot past her test, she is willing to move on to another candidate or leader that will do as she asks.

As we all listen over the next year to these leaders who ask for our support, let’s all make sure we do our homework.

Let’s make sure that those leaders are who they claim to be and are willing to take responsibility for getting America back on track. Take out those pencils, take good notes, and study the candidates and their records.

Yes, there will be a test for us all on Election Day 2012 and it is a test we must pass for the future of our country.

Iowa Straw Poll Presidential Kick-Off Breakfast and “Corn Poll”

Iowa Straw Poll Presidential Kick-Off Breakfast and “Corn Poll”
Women’s Organizations Support “Limited Government and Free Market” Political Candidates

(St. Paul, Minnesota – August 3, 2011) – With a bumper crop of Republican candidates competing to win the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, August 13, PURSE-Iowa and VOICES of Conservative Women will partner in a Presidential Kick-Off Breakfast and an hourly Corn Poll contest. Breakfast attendees will hear from the field of Presidential candidates (candidate list http://iowastrawpoll.eventbrite.com), and Straw Poll women and men attendees will visit the VOICES/PURSE tent to weigh in at the Corn Poll with a kernel or more of corn to tip the scale in support of their favorite candidate.

Presidential candidates cannot underestimate the importance of appealing to women voters. Making sure that women are engaged in the political process is critical to our organizations, and participating in the Iowa Straw Poll is an exciting step to engage them early and to consider running for office themselves,” said Iowa House Majority Leader Representative Linda Upmeyer, Co-founder of PURSE-Iowa.

In a joint effort to ensure issues many women care about remain in the spotlight, the two conservative women’s groups are co-hosting a Presidential Kick-off Breakfast at the Gateway Inn with remarks from the candidates, Lt. Gov Kim Reynolds, Iowa Majority Leader Upmeyer and Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch.

Following the breakfast, the co-hosts will sponsor a Presidential Corn Poll at the VOICES/PURSE reception tent at the front of the Iowa Straw Poll grounds, where attendees will want obtain a kernel or more of corn to cast their vote. Since results of the corn poll will be announced hourly throughout the day, members of the media and campaigns will want to monitor the informal results and activities at the tent.

According to Rutgers University Center of American Women & Politics, women voters outvote their male counterparts in every election cycle. In these tough economic times, like-minded conservative women support candidates with a disciplined message of fiscal responsibility, limited government and free market principles. This economic focus on bread and butter issues challenge the notion that women only care about social issues that have been the priority of progressive, liberal women’s organizations.
“This partnership between VOICES of Conservative Women and PURSE-Iowa marks the first time that any women’s organization is working to ensure that conservative women voters are heard early in the presidential process. It also allows us to reach out to future female candidates at all levels of government and support them with information and financial support for a successful campaign. The time has come for women to make their voices heard on the issues and candidates that will shape the future of our country.” said Jennifer DeJournett, President of VOICES of Conservative Women.

While hearing the Midwestern corn grow and kernels of corn being cast for candidates, Minnesota-based VOICES will launch its national effort to voice its support of candidates who promote fiscal responsibility, limited government and free market principles. Since its inception, VOICES has worked to encourage women to get involved in politics and has a proven track record of electing qualified candidates to office.

In Minnesota, Iowa and other battleground states, women seek the expanded presence of a conservative group that supports women candidates. In response to this demand, VOICES hopes to elevate its common sense message during campaigns and replicate its winning strategy in local and state elections. Additional details regarding the national expansion will be announced in the future.

1st Women's Straw Poll Results Announced

(St. Louis, MO – July 30, 2011) – Smart Girl Politics Action (SGP) and VOICES of Conservative Women (VOICES) are pleased to announce that Rep. Michele Bachmann narrowly wins the first Women’s Presidential Straw Poll. Herman Cain came in a close second place in this straw poll held in St. Louis, MO, at the Smart Girl Summit, July 29-30, 2011. This gathering of almost 300 conservative women also voted overwhelmingly in support of Republican’s Cut, Cap and Balance” plan that was passed by the House of Representatives on Friday.
The ballot asked six (6) questions of attendees of the Smart Girl Politics Summit. The first two questions asked for the first and second choice candidate preferences. Candidates included on the ballot Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Ambassador Jon Huntsman, Gov. Gary Johnson, Congressman Thad McCotter, Congressman Ron Paul, Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Gov. Mitt Romney. Participants were asked to name the most pressing issue facing them today, as well as whether they support the “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan. Participants also sent messages to the candidates regarding how to best engage and appeal to women voters.

To provide accuracy in vote results, attendee badges were marked upon receipt of their ballots, ballots were placed in a secure box and not opened until the conclusion of the poll. Each question was counted at least twice by separate individuals to insure accuracy and ballot integrity.

Information regarding the Straw Poll, results and breakdown is attached.

Hearing the voice of women voters is paramount to any successful campaign. VOICES is thrilled that women from around the country spoke with clarity and with a strong decisive voice. We congratulate Congresswoman Bachmann on winning the first women’s straw poll. We look forward to all the candidates engaging with women voters in this critical election,” said Jennifer DeJournett, President and co-founder of VOICES of Conservative Women.

“The overwhelming choice of Rep. Bachmann and Herman Cain in the First Women’s Presidential Straw Poll shows that conservative women demand a true conservative – one that believes in fiscal responsibility, in limited government, and that will stand up for the grassroots,” says Stacy Mott, founder of Smart Girl Politics. “Attendees had a difficult time casting their vote. Many were undecided, proving that candidates must communicate better with conservative women in order to win their support. Smart Girl Politics congratulates Rep. Bachmann and looks forward to the continued support and communication of all candidates with grassroots conservative women.” says Stacy Mott, Founder of Smart Girl Politics.”
